Advent Film Group’s “Come What May”

Friday, October 31st, 2008

GodTube had a free viewing until the 29th, and I’ve heard good things about the movie, so I decided to tune in and watch “Come What May.” (there is a great trailer on that link!!)

“In the movie, Caleb, a Christian student attending Patrick Henry College, is caught in a moral tug-of-war as he challenges Roe v. Wade at the National Moot Court Championship. At the same time, the character’s mother, a feminist attorney, argues the case at the U.S. Supreme Court, but on the opposing side.”~ quoted from worldnetdaily.com here

I love this movie:

* because, most importantly, it brings out the truth about when life begins…there’s no getting around Caleb’s argument.
* it promotes modesty & family values
* it was created by homeschool students, who were then instructed by movie professionals (how cool is that?!)
* and because it’s location is Patrick Henry College, which just so happens to be where I have wanted my girls to ever since hearing about it nearly 2 years ago - I know…they’re ages 5 and under…I’m a planner :)
If you get a chance…check out a clip, which I’ve so conveiniently embedded here :)

At a loss for words….

Sunday, January 13th, 2008

My heart is pounding, hands shaking, my mind is just jumping from one thought to the next, and I just can’t seem to hold back the tears. Why? It’s not the pregnancy hormones, I can promise you that. But it has everything to do with pregnancy.

I was googling for baby pictures for what was going to be my 14 week baby update and came across abortion pictures. This has happened before during my previous pregnancy posts, but I trained myself to look the other way (how easy…just to look the other way). This time, I was convicted to look at the reality of what our country allows to happen to unborn children who can’t stick up for themselves. Just from having some general idea of what abortion is and how it is performed, I am, and have been for some time now, pro-life. But after reading a paper written by a registered nurse (please note that there are graphic pictures) here, I fully understand how and when the many ways an abortion is performed. Actually seeing (and not just having a general thought about) post abortion pictures…it first made me so mad…and then a terrible saddness came over me! I just want to pick the baby up, cuddle him or her, put their little arms and legs back together, and tell them everything is going to be alright. But I can’t…and I can’t persuade the mother to change her mind…those pictures are over and done with.

So what do I do? I can’t change others; I am responsible for only my actions. So, I’ll pray…pray…and pray.

Just an FYI: Did you know that the youngest baby to survive was born at 22 weeks? Some women have abortions at 22 weeks. See, it just doesn’t make any sense…

Go Huckabee!

Well spoken and honest, Mike Huckabee on the “What would Jesus do?” question:

A Few Great Posts

I’ve come across a few posts that really get my mind thinking, hold me accountable, and are encouraging. I thought I’d pass them along to you :)

Mike HuckabeeThanks to Jess for sharing this on her blog.

A few snippets from Randy Alcorn’s post: Sacrificing Children on a Republican Altar?

“…evangelical spokesperson (Pat Robertson) -though I’m not sure who Robertson really represents anymore-would turn his back on unborn children to endorse Giuliani, who favors legalized abortion, is tragic.”

“If, like many, you get upset about the fact that people would post (abortion) pictures or that I would link to them, I suggest you reserve your outrage for those who defend the right to commit such atrocities against children. It is not the photos that are immoral-it is abortion that is immoral. The photos only tell the truth most of us don’t want to see. It is the height of hypocrisy to support a candidate who defends legalized abortion, while getting mad at people who show the truth about abortion because the truth is so horrible.”

“…the one with the best chance of winning, I think, is Mike Huckabee. But regardless of what we think about his chances, why would we not choose someone who we have reason to believe will live by God-honoring principles and stand for the unborn and marriage and family and religious freedom whether in victory or defeat?”

“You have no control over who in the end votes for Hillary Clinton. You do have control over who you vote for. You won’t be held accountable for someone else voting for a pro-abortion candidate. You will be held accountable if you vote for such a candidate. “But he was a Republican, Lord,” you may say at the judgment seat. “But I’m not a Republican,” Jesus may say. “I’m the original Independent.”"

It’s a long post, but it’s worth your time to read!

FairA few snippet’s from Josh Malone’s , The Church at the County Fair

“One thing I noticed while walking through…is that there are a variety of booths promoting a variety of organizations and ideas.”

“…in a Southern county the fair represents a place where almost everyone’s lives intersect…It is in these places the church must make an impact and influence people’s lives with the Gospel.”"

“The chain smoking, truck driving, gun toting, Hank Williams Jr. worshipping, country boy is more likely to listen to the gospel coming from the guy that he shared a laugh or a good time with.”

A few snippet’s from Mrs. H’s, The Danger of Self-Pity

Content Mother“As Christian women, wives, and mothers, we are called to imitate the Standard to which all of society is held, and society is teaching us to be increasingly unhappy and dissatisfied with what we have.”

“…we all have bad days, where it seems that nothing goes right, but it’s how we react to those days that our children see and imitate.”

“Having several small children underfoot can be a challenge and is most definitely a source of exhaustion for the mother. However, we must guard our hearts against the thought that our children are a burden, or are constantly causing us more work. The Lord gave us these children because He trusted us to raise them in a godly home for His glory.”

Abortion

Tuesday, October 30th, 2007

For the past two days, I’ve tried to get this topic out of my head. But after my daily dose of MakingHome, I realized I better just get it off my chest. It seems that whenever I have something going on in my life, Jess writes about that topic or something of relative importance to that topic. This used to freak me out, but I’ve come to realize it’s a huge blessing, since Jess has a great head on her shoulders and she leads by such a wonderful example!

A couple days ago, I found out that an old friend of mine is pregnant….she seems to be thrilled and even though we no longer talk, I’m excited for her. However, not but three years ago, she got pregnant unexpectedly and “got it taken care of.” That is, she had an abortion. So I’m a little confused. Why at one point in her life was a pregnancy viewed as something to be terrified of, inconvenient, or a burden and the next point in her life something to look forward to or celebrate?

Here is what I’ve boiled it down to. Her first pregnancy occurred when she was in her early twenties, it was unexpected, and the father was someone she didn’t really want to be with. This current pregnancy is occurring now that she’s married and has a stable life. Lilli was conceived when I was 21, unmarried, and not too sure about where my life was going. 4D babyI know what it’s like to have an “unexpected” pregnancy….unexpected to me, that is, not God. Psalm 139:13-16 says, “You made all the delicate, inner parts of my body and knit me together in my mother’s womb. Thank you for making me so wonderfully complex!  Your workmanship is marvelous—how well I know it. You watched me as I was being formed in utter seclusion, as I was woven together in the dark of the womb. You saw me before I was born. Every day of my life was recorded in your book. Every moment was laid out before a single day had passed.”

I couldn’t imagine my life without Lilli or Corinne. I wonder if my old friend’s views on abortion have changed now that she’s pregnant, or once she hears the little heartbeat, or sees the baby’s limbs on the ultrasound screen, or when she gives birth and holds the most perfect little baby she’s ever seen. I know I can’t change a person’s views, I just wish people would see what abortion truly is…it’s not a way out for your “inconvenience,” it’s murder.

Only God knows her heart and I just have to remember that I cannot change a person or their views, I cannot judge (a sin is a sin is a sin to God…and Lord knows I do and have done my fair share of sinning), but I can trust God to work in her heart and life because “with God, all things are possible.” ~Matthew 19:26
